Project Overview and Participant Information:

A 2018 point in time survey indicated households in Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade experience economic hardship at a rate higher than the state average (as defined by ALICE scores). These same counties experienced an unemployment rate as high as 17.4% (Broward County, May 2020), during the COVID pandemic and have continued to struggle to recover. Libraries are assisting with recovery by helping connect patrons to social services, provide career readiness training, and by providing career development services.

The Career Readiness and Development project will bring more tools to bare in the SEFLIN region for libraries to access to assist with career recovery. The Brainfuse tutor platform will aid sixteen participating libraries serving a population of 588,624 people throughout SEFLIN’s six counties. Tutoring services will be presented for K-12 students, standardized test prep, support for veterans re-entering the workforce, and job seekers including resume writing and interview skills, standardized test prep, etc. As we work to assist in community recovery, focusing on these needs will allow SEFLIN member libraries to directly support learners and jobseekers in our communities. Through the tutor platform, provision of on-demand access to trained experts one-on-one interview coaching, real-time academic tutoring, job search guidance and resume assistance will aid in overcoming prominent community issues by providing access to resources that empower individuals to make life-changing decisions and increase self-efficacy.
